Bio Security
A well-proven method of CP Prima’s scientific shrimp cultivation is the stringent bio-security measures that we apply to the ponds and its infrastructure in order to mitigate the risk of diseases and other contaminants. This allow us to produce one hundred percent antibiotics-free shrimp that meet international food safety standards.
Upgrading infrastructure and Bio-security
A closed water management system and modular ponds layout allows CP Prima to isolate each pond into an operating unit of its own. This mitigates against diseases spreading or contamination of one pond from another, which has been and remains a key part of our successful shrimp breeding and harvesting in 120-day cycles.
Another key success factor of CP Prima is the ability to duplicate and put in place the stringent bio-security measures in all of the ponds that we operate. Thus, a major undertaking in 2007 was the upgrading of infrastructure and bio-security at the acquired Dipasena ponds by converting these ponds into modular system.
Ongoing Training at Pond Site
CP Prima continues to manage a strict policy of Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) and Specific Pathogen Resistant (SPR) shrimp fry stocking. We also insure that all of our shrimps come from CP Prima’s closely monitored hatcheries that use the appropriated SPF/SPR broodstock from our own genetic breeding program in Florida, USA, Shrimp Improvement Systems (SIS).
Water management is another critical factor in high-quality shrimp cultivation. All of our water is treated with extreme care, applying mild disinfection procedures and using water intake screens to filter potential disease carriers. Disinfectants are also applied prior to water being discharged from ponds. Highly durable plastic linings are used on the surface of the ponds to prevent contact between surrounding soils and water in the ponds. Sanitized casnets are used for sampling purposes. A weekly sampling of body weight, shrimp quality and water quality are taken to monitor conditions throughout the farming cycle. In addition, CP Prima employees non-lethal predator controls and devices to ward off potential predators such as birds and crabs from entering the ponds.
CP Prima maintains a fully fledged Farmer Services Division that provides on-site training to farmers on the finer points of our biosecurity measures, and ensure that standard operating procedures are strictly followed for stocking technique, feeding schedule, sampling and water treatment.
Research and Development
Our R&D facilities also work to develop and improve bio-security measures and risk management throughout our integrated chain of productions. To date, CP Prima has never had any major disruptions to its production facility due to diseases or contaminants.
